SUCCESS STORY
Ephlux and its partner delivered on the promise of Gibson ‘Take Anywhere’ Media Technology

When Guitar veteran and music synthesis specialist Gibson brought its revolutionary media transfer/anti piracy licensing concept to the table, Ephlux and its partner delivered a tangible, bulletproof digital watermarking and media rights management solution!

Ever since its inception more than a century ago (1895), Gibson has always committed itself to providing nothing less than the best, when it comes to music. Their first electric guitar prototype in 1935, and its consequent release on May 20, 1936 (ES-150) marked a new era of innovation in the music industry.

Keeping their heritage of ‘leading the change’, Gibson intended to create a solution that would ensure media compliance and restrict media piracy to an extent that its effect on industry economics would become negligible. They also wanted to ensure that loyal consumers would not have to bear the brunt of this new concept, and that the sophisticated technology required to implement this cause would not have a negative effect on media productions in turn.

Instead of dictating a next to impossible media solution that would need half the US fiscal budget, Ephlux with its partner met the challenge with a revolutionary approach.

Instead of proposing a tech jargon filled encryption module with a server farm the likes of Google to back it up – Ephlux and its partner developed a user friendly media application – rightly termed ‘Playfriend’.

Playfriend is a device independent software, allowing consumers to transfer their media seamlessly to any media device; stand alone, portable or otherwise. This ensures centralization of all public media via a singular, top of the line user interface.

To ensure zero media piracy, ‘digital watermark licensing’ was utilized. Each instance of any media action implied a watermark verification routine, be it a scenario where a user plays a song on a device, or an extensive transfer of all media files from one device to another. All media actions would require digital watermark validation; similarly all media transfer would entail watermark generation and logging via centralized servers in a cost effective and efficient manner.

Google OS vs Windows

Google is jumping into Microsoft Windows territory — and threatening to change the way personal computers work — with its own version of a computer operating system.

The company says the forthcoming Google Chrome OS will revolutionize how computers operate, putting more emphasis on Web functionality, making computers faster and opening them up to helpful tinkering by outside program developers.

A trim and speedy Google operating system, which has been buzzed about online for some time, is interesting for several reasons — even if you think it could flop out of the gate.

The first is that Chrome OS will be available as “open-source” technology. That means software developers will be able to mess with the code behind the system, allowing them to develop new applications for it.

In essence, it puts the users in control. This wisdom-of-the-masses philosophy flies right in the face of Microsoft Windows, which keeps its code locked away.

Handling ‘Monotony’ at Work

Peace everyone.

I’d like to tell you all a short story about a guy named Mr. X. He’s a typical, middle aged, workaholic kind of a guy, who’s life is a myriad of regularly repeated events. Hes only been to two places in this world. The career life cycle.

One is ‘Home’, which feels like a rented motel room to him, as he only sleeps there. Place #2 is what he calls ‘Work’, hes lived most of his life there, and it feels like home to him.

He is an expert - at doing the same things, over and over, everyday. Everybody likes him - enough to say ‘hi’ every morning and ‘good night’ when the shift is over. His life is a plethora of documents, spreadsheets, to-do lists and meetings, which are all carefully knitted into a circular reference.

The world calls Mr. X ’successful’, while he calls himself ‘miserable’.

Coming to the question - how do you feel you can relate to Mr. X. Is his monotonous schedule similar to yours? if so, how would you suggest Mr. X can improve his work experience, and start enjoying work again. How do you handle monotony at work - its causes, and its consequent effects. How can one make sure that work efficiency is not hampered by its monotonous nature.

Comments appreciated, with rationale. BTW, Mr.X tends to take things very personally, so lets not make any suggestive comments :) Will add my opinion on the subject as a clarification later.

WHITEPAPER
Software Estimation Inside Out

Software size estimation is one of the most critical and difficult activity in the software planning process. Measuring the software size goes a long way in determining efforts, schedule and budget for a project. Any failures in misjudging or misunderstanding the scope and size of the project will always result in over budget, failed deliveries and schedule overruns thus resulting in total failure of the project.

INDUSTRY NEWS

Is Redmond Getting Its Groove Back?

Chrome OS may still be vaporware, but its announcement has set off reverberations in the blogosphere as strong as any produced by much weightier matter.

Indeed, ever since the official announcement, countless conversations have scrutinized the few details that are currently available about the Linux-based OS, with many pondering its long-term effects both on FOSS and on Windows.

It wasn't too surprising, then, to see both Bill Gates and Steve Ballmer weighing in recently with their reactions to the announcement -- nor, for that matter, were those reactions.

Reflections on a Chrome-Plated World

Google's Chrome OS may be the most-anticipated tech baby in the oven. Will it take Microsoft down? Will it take Microsoft down a peg? Will it help or hurt FOSS? Whether it will change the world as we know it remains to be seen, but it has already changed the discussion.

That Google's original announcement drew more than 5,300 Diggs and 650 comments by Friday is some small indication of the level of excitement that's going on here.
